Washington general contractor Retaining walls · Pergolas · Sheds Owner-built · 20 years on the tools

Good work, from the ground up.

Retaining walls, pergolas and sheds across Washington — built by Javier, who spent twenty years doing this for other people's companies before putting his own name on it.

After twenty years building for other companies, Javier started CJ Builds to put his experience — and his name — behind work of his own. His approach is simple: listen carefully, be upfront, and only take on work he's confident he can complete well.

02

Three thingswe're known for.

Layered natural stone retaining wall with planted beds and a curved walkway
01 — Retaining walls

Hold the slope.
Gain the yard.

A wall that does its job for decades and looks like it belongs there. Natural stone, block, or timber — the right answer depends on the ground, and Javier will tell you which.

  • Terracing & steps
  • Drainage done properly
  • Boulder & block walls

02 — Pergolas

A reason to be
outside after work.

Shade in August, structure all year, and somewhere to put the good chairs. Built for a Washington winter, not a catalogue photo.

  • Freestanding or attached
  • Timber, louvered or modern
  • Lighting & outdoor kitchens

03 — Sheds

Get the garage
back.

Storage, a workshop, or the small building that finally holds everything. Sized to the yard you have, finished so it doesn't look like an afterthought.

  • Cedar, painted or modern
  • Windows, doors & power-ready

Same ground,different life.

Drag the handle. This is what a slope turns into when someone knows what they're doing.

05 — Meet Javier

His own business. His word behind it.

Twenty years on the tools. A new name on the door. The same person picking up the phone and picking up the shovel.

You'll have a real conversation about what's possible, what it will take, and what makes sense for your home. Fair pricing matters. So does your budget. Javier is happy to talk through the numbers and find a scope that works for both of you — above all, he wants you to be happy with the result.

  1. 01Honest from the start.

If it isn't the right job for him, he'll tell you before you've spent a dollar.

  2. 02Clear along the way.

You'll know what's happening and when. No disappearing act.

  3. 03Proud of the result.

His name is on the business now. That changes how a person builds.

Three steps,none of them scary.

You don't need drawings, measurements or a decision. A photo and a rough idea is plenty.

  1. 01

    Tell him the idea

Send a photo of the space, your city, and what you'd like to change. Two sentences is fine.

  2. 02

    Talk it through

Javier walks you through scope, timing and what the project genuinely needs — including what it doesn't.

  3. 03

    Agree the plan

A clear path forward and a number you both understand, before anyone picks up a shovel.

07

The questionseverybody asks.

What does a retaining wall cost?

It depends almost entirely on height, length, soil and access — a two-foot garden wall and an eight-foot structural wall are different projects. Javier would rather look at your site and give you a real number than publish a range that turns out to be wrong for you.

Do you work in my area?

CJ Builds is Washington-based. Send your city with your message and Javier will confirm straight away whether he can get to you.

Who actually does the work?

Javier. That's the whole point of the business. You talk to the person doing the job, and he's the one accountable for how it turns out.

How new is CJ Builds?

The company is new. The experience isn't — Javier has been on the tools for twenty years, most of it building for other companies. He'd rather tell you that plainly than pretend otherwise.

Are the photos on this site your projects?

Not yet. They're licensed photography and design concepts, credited below, shown so you can point at what you like. Javier's own project photos go up as jobs finish.

How soon will I hear back?

He's on a job site most of the day, so a text often gets a faster reply than a call. Leave your city and what you're planning and he'll come back to you.
